Tooth-Coloured Fillings

A healthy smile is a beautiful smile!

Tooth-coloured fillings (also known as composite fillings or composite resin restorations) are a type of dental filling designed to look and feel like natural teeth.

Older amalgam ‘silver’ fillings not only cause teeth to appear discoloured or dark, but can also cause cracking and chipping of the surrounding tooth structure over time. Composite fillings not only offer a better aesthetic but also act more like natural tooth structure, helping to avoid fractures when biting.

As composite materials bond directly to the tooth structure, they allow for less removal of the natural tooth to achieve retention. A light is used to harden or "cure" the filling material, which means it is safe to bite on straight away.

Composite resin fillings can also be used for reshaping and/or lengthening of teeth, to fill gaps between teeth, or to give you a more uniform, attractive smile in the form of cosmetic dental bonding or composite veneers.
