A BEAUTIFUL SMILE WITH

Children's Dentistry

A child’s first dental visit is very important! A positive experience shapes their future attitudes towards their dental health.  At Polar Dental we have a friendly and relaxed approach that children respond well to.  Our staff all have young children themselves and are experienced creating a positive experience for your children.

First Visit

Your child’s first appointment will include a detailed examination of the teeth, gums, jaws and mouth.  We will answer any questions you and your child have, and plan with you to care for their teeth and prevent decay.

There is TV on the roof above the dental chair for children to watch during their appointment and a surprise to help motivate positive dental health after their appointment.

We offer a full range of dental services for children, which include:

  • Dental examinations and diagnostic x-rays
  • Scale and cleaning to remove plaque, tartar and staining
  • Fillings, fissure sealants and extractions
  • We also assess your child’s orthodontic needs and refer them for specialist care at the appropriate time if needed.

Mouthguards

Mouthguards are important in order to prevent dental trauma during sports such as football, hockey and basketball.   Impact to the jaws and teeth can cause permanent and serious damage, and the use of custom made mouthguards offer the best protection during sport.

Unlike 'boil and bite' pharmacy mouthguards, custom mouthguards don’t slip, fall or drop out of the mouth and are more comfortable so you can focus on with the game with the mouthguard remaining safely in the mouth.

At your appointment we will assess your mouth for the best type of mouthguard to suit your needs.  You can also choose a colour! We will then take moulds of your teeth so that you can come by and collect your mouthguard a few days later.

If you find dental moulds uncomfortable we can instead scan your mouth digitally.

General Mouthguard Tips

You should wear your mouthguard at all times when playing sport including training sessions.

After use, wash your mouthguard in cool tap water with liquid soap and let it air dry.

Avoid leaving your mouthguard in direct sunlight or hot cars in summer as they can distort in heat.

Bring your mouthguard along to dental check-ups so your dentist can check that it is still fitting well and doing its job to protect you.

Replace a child’s mouthguard every 12- 18 months as their mouth and jaw grow, and baby teeth fall out and are replaced with adult teeth.

Replace adult mouthguards after major dental work.
